After a stellar first year in our location on Alvaro Obregon we've reopened in our new location on the corner of Santos Degollado and Militar—right across from the park. (We actually did that back in November, and it's just taken me this long to sit down and write about it. Blame it on the baby). We LOVED our old location (as did many of you): a hollowed out, run down house converted into a kitchen and barroom (and employee housing) with a sandy front garden as a dinning room. It had all the makings of a good story, but space was tight and maintenance needs high. Fortunately, we were able to bring the good vibes and fantastic food with us.
We have a lot planned for El Refugio: more cultural talks, new dishes, murals, and...well. You'll just have to wait and see. Bare with us though—we're on Mexican AND new baby time. It'll come out bit by bit. For now we've got your old favorites and some new ones:
- Pozole Thursday's: Noel's famous pozole verde straight from the markets of Chilpancingo
- Chile Enogadas: bi–weekly (the day seems to fluctuate, so stay tuned in!)
- Happy Hour—Cantina-style: Fridays and Saturdays from 5-6pm come in for drinks and enjoy our free appetizers
- Mezcal, Mezcal, y Mas Mezcal: we have many of the same varieties as last year, along with some new ones. And of course: flights!
If you haven't paid us a visit yet, come in and say hi!
